Immigrant Ministries

“Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!” – Hebrews 13:2

Scripture enjoins us too welcome the stranger home. While this is not always possible, we can always help the new immigrant in our midst make his or her own home.

The immigrant has the same needs as anyone else moving into a new community. These needs include information on jobs, schools, health facilities, housing, utilities, social activities and places for spiritual nurture and growth. But the immigrant has other needs; resources to help him or her adjust to the new culture and language, the complicated network of immigrant regulations, orientation to the system of government, law enforcement and social services programs.

As a congregation of immigrants, we see it as a calling to help the newest “strangers” in our midst to make their home among us as neighbors. When fully operational, the Immigrant Center will serve as:

  • A resource center where immigrants can directly access resources or assistance to meet their needs including maintaining legal status or adjusting immigrant status.
  • An information repository or clearinghouse where immigrants can obtain information on how or where to access the needed resources elsewhere.
  • A referral point from where immigrants are referred to other organizations that have the resources to meet their needs and with whom the Immigrant Center has developed a referral relationship.
